Meet EPCS and HIPAA Compliance Requirements in Healthcare and Other Environments
The WAVE ID Bio multi-factor authentication reader is the ideal choice for healthcare technology professionals preparing for compliance with upcoming Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS) as well as the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
The innovative reader addresses key needs related to multi-factor authentication via its WAVE ID® Plus platform capable of reading most proximity and contactless credentials, along with biometric data.
The all-in-one design of the WAVE ID Bio reader provides a higher level of identity access than conventional readers, delivering a secure, future-focused technology investment. The reader also offers security advantages in banking & financial and state/local government applications.
The reader is dual frequency and reads 125 kHz proximity, 132 kHz or 13.56 MHz formats. In addition, a fingerprint module is integrated for seamless multi-factor authentication.
Advanced Multi-Factor Authentication in a Single Device
WAVE ID Bio incorporates the rf IDEAS flagship WAVE ID Plus platform capable of reading most global proximity and contactless credentials with Bluetooth® Low Energy technology and a fingerprint sensor from Crossmatch. The rich feature set of WAVE ID Bio includes:
- Four ID card configurations (two are pre-set and all four are user definable)
- Auto-tuning for 13.56 MHz antenna to optimize performance in various environments
- User-selectable volume control including a beeper on/off setting
- Bluetooth functionality enabled through the Bluegiga BLE113 Bluetooth Smart Module
- TouchChip® TCE FIPS201 certified silicon fingerprint module from HID
The multi-factor authentication provided by WAVE ID Bio will comprise any two of the three tenets for security: what the practitioner knows (for example, a password), what the practitioner has (including a hard token or smart card), and what the practitioner is (biometric data such as a fingerprint).
Meets Emerging Compliance Requirements
The WAVE ID Bio is engineered to deliver badge, smartphone token and biometric authentication while meeting upcoming EPCS regulations mandated by the Patients and Communities Act. These regulations are required for the distribution of controlled substance prescriptions starting on January 1, 2021, giving organizations preparation time to implement compliant readers ahead of the legislation.
